Brooklyn's Here!

With great excitement we met our daughter Brooklyn Grace this Monday, August 23rd, 2010 at 8:48 am. She weighed in at 7 1/2 pounds and is 20 inches long. We couldn't be happier with the addition of our beautiful, relaxed little girl. She made her entrance into the world in very much her own way. Under the impression second children came sooner along in the pregnancy than firsts, and that labor was supposed to be a quicker experience, she decided that three days longer than her brother in the womb sounded better, and took nearly as long (22 vs. 23 hours) to make her grand entrance. And it was all so worth it. She has been an eating, pooping, sleeping machine and has delighted all of us in the hours she is awake with her big, dark blue eyes and contorted faces.
We weren't sure what to expect when Jack met his little sister. We had talked about her coming into our life, read books about babies, looked at pictures and showed him all the baby stuff, but as the day came closer for her arrival, he answered most baby related questions with a strong "no" and a hand up to halt further conversation. Since her arrival he has for the most part ignored her, but we have caught glimpses of him going up to pat her, saying hi, and this morning, telling Brooklyn all about his shower. It was so sweet I cried. The video below is of Jack and Brooklyn at the hospital. You may or may not know that Jack is obsessed with the shopping carts at the "food store." So Brooklyn, being the wonderful little sister she is, bought Jack a shopping cart as a "thank for being my big brother" gift. Jack was delighted with her thoughtfulness and wanted to include her in the shopping cart experience. The video catches the first time Jack holds her as well. Hope you enjoy it as much as we do.
